I just purchased an JD2210 with a 62 mmm and loader w/53 bucket. I have 1.6 hours on it and noticed when the engine is not running the steering wheel will turn freely clockwise making a pumping/clicking noise but it will not turn counterclockwise… without the front wheels turning. After starting the engine the steering works fine. I called my dealer and they said that it should not be doing that and that they would look at it next week. I was curious to see if there is anyone else out there with the same problem… Thanks, TOM

It's kind of funny the dealer told me it was a defective or weak spool valve, so they order one. The funny thing is last night I was showing a friend the tractor and now the steering seems to work fine... I don't know what to do, have them replace it or let it go and see what happens. Anyway, I will talk to the dealer and see what they recommend.

Tom--if the dealer is willing to do it, I would go for it. Peace of mind and eliminating a potential problem further down the road. T ....

With hydrostatic power steering you are able to turn the wheel relatively easily when the oil has drained down. ....

I just went out to the garage to check how mine works. Seems like the steering wheel turns when the tractor is off, and moves the front wheels as well. It is pretty hard to turn, and if you turn it quickly it clicks. Hope this helps. T ....

I may have explained it wrong... When the tractor is off the steering wheel would turn but the front tires did not. Now when you move my steering wheel the front tires move with it... So it seems all is well now. I think I'm going to ask the dealer to hold on to the part and have it replaced later in the season when they aren’t as busy. Because, I don't like the idea that it didn't work and now it does... Therefore, it makes me think that it is a weak valve. Thanks for the advice... TOM ....

Tom,

If the machine is off you should struggle to turn the steering wheel. While under warranty, I would let those guys fix it. ....
